10 Things That Keep My Internet Business Consistent
I get inspired from various things throughout my life and I even allow things from my past to inspire future works. Recently I came up on a piece of paper titled "The 10 Things That Keep My Business Consistent" and I realized I kept it from when I was doing sales for a company called Vector Marketing. I partially remember when I received the notes but when I saw the paper it inspired me to write out my understanding of these ten principles. I thought about how I could flip it to benefit my Internet business and that is when it got interesting. I found that writing out my understanding of 10 principles helped reinforce the principles within myself and I incorporate these principles within my daily business activity. I figured that if it helps me then it could also benefit others, so I decided to share my notes on the "10 Things That Keep My Internet Business Consistent", I look forward to your feedback.
1. Phone Time, All the time -- especially in the car between appointments.
The phone is going to be the most important part of your business. I say that with the utmost confidence because business relationships tend to start over the phone. I know specifically that most of the clients that I still have as associates today I originally called them myself, what is known as a cold call. I don't believe in paying for leads and completely cold calling. I generate my leads for free and I use information I have about them and build a relationship. Another time I will talk about how I generate my leads for free. Now I use the phone and Skype. I always ask people if they have Skype because if I speak to them through Skype then I know they are sitting in front of their computer. Go out and love the phone and learn how to enjoy talking to people, I promise your business will grow exponentially.
2. Being Happy -- In personal life and with your work.
Everybody in life is chasing happiness whether they say that out right or not; it is the driving force behind most choices and decisions we make. Some people are not happy because they are unsatisfied. We have to learn to focus on the things we do have as something of importance and the things we don't have but want as something to work towards. Just because we want something better for our lives doesn't mean we have to be unhappy with what we possess currently. Work to balance all areas of your life. Complete balance will also aid in our complete happiness.
3. Having a purpose/Working towards a goal.
"You can learn anything you need to learn to achieve any goal you can set for yourself, there are no limits." - Brian Tracy
Working with a purpose in mind and towards a specific goal is the only way we will be successful in our endeavours. We have to know where we are going in order to get there.
Goal setting is extremely important for the success of any business.
When we are goal setting we must set short term goals and long term goals and allow them to work hand in hand with each other. We can start by setting long term goals of two years and then work our way backwards, one year, 6-month, 3-month, month by month, week by week goals and come right down to our daily schedule.
4. Being Organized -- Business and home.
Organization is essential for keeping track of our business and personal life. Being neat and properly organized is not a trait only possessed by persons with OCD; we can train ourselves to be organized. Proper organization aids in having readily accessible information and helps add to overall efficiency.
5. Plan Schedule -- but most importantly follow schedule.
Having a carefully planned schedule is also important when trying to keep our business consistent. The follow through is going to be the most important part of the schedule but there are other things we can do to help make the process move efficiently. Every night I try to go over my schedule and see what I got completed and what I did not. I look at the next day's schedule and I move what I did not do today and match it with what needs to be done the next day, then I prioritize. After I prioritize my tasks all that is left is to follow through and execute all plans and tasks.
6. Time management--do things in order of importance.
This follows along with the prioritizing I was talking about above. Prioritizing is doing things in order of importance. Through managing our time wisely and prioritizing we should be able to maximize our output and efficiency. Whatever tasks we have to do for our business has to be done based on what is truly important for our business; that is the mentality we must have.
7. Focus on Quality vs. Quantity.
We can't spread ourselves thin, doing too much can take away from our most leveraged asset, time, and we need to maximize that as much as possible. Let's think about this example; if we focus on quantity of customers instead of the quality of customers then we could potentially lose sales in the long run. Information is key. The more information we have about a potential customer or a previous customer, the more we can maximize the revenue we can generate from our customers presently and in the future. We must focus on the quality of our customers and the only way for us to do that successfully is for us to know enough information about them to be able to acknowledge what they are worth to us.
8. Take it week by week -- focus on short term goals.
Short term goals are like achievement points. Every time we accomplish short term goals we should be one step closer to our long-term goals. There is a cycle that we already work within so we should use the cycle. Make short term goals and get some achievement points (lol :-D). We already discussed having a schedule and how crucial it is to follow that schedule. In this case we would just work along with our schedule and set goals week by week and month by month for our business. Remember as we make our short term goals we will be working on our long term goals.
9. Always be into the customer/client -- Nothing else is on your mind except your customer.
Potential clients and customers are of absolute importance to our business. No matter what business we run we need people for our business to survive and that makes them a vital factor. We must keep them happy and keep them satisfied and they will either be repeat customers or be a customer that makes referrals to your business.
10. Talk to positive people/leaders in your field -- It keeps you motivated, makes you happy, and reminds you why you are working.
The power of positivity or a positive message is exponential. Gaining insight and understanding from somebody who is already successful within our field/industry is a priceless moment. There is just too much one can do with such knowledge. The value of acquiring such knowledge and wisdom will keep us motivated, excited, and happy about what we are doing, while reinforcing the reason we are actually doing it.
Running an Internet business is no different from running a traditional offline business. It is a matter of understanding the power of the Internet and mastering the marketing channel the Internet opens for you. Combining an offline business with an Internet business or just simply marketing your current business online is not a hard task, but one must talk to experts and learn from people who have already been successful at what they are trying to accomplish.
Today we spoke about some real gems that can boost the output of anyone's business and keep the output consistent over time. Everything I discussed here is open to feedback and I encourage objections. We can all learn from each other.
